Omegle didn't fade out. It closed in 2023 as part of a settlement, and the court had already found that Section 230 didn't cover it. The problem wasn't what anyone posted. It was the matching itself.
Every replacement rebuilt the camera anyway.
And they all get the same review: it's just people looking for something sexual. That reads like a moderation failure. We think it's simpler than that — a camera turns a conversation into an audition. Whoever came to perform stays. Whoever came to talk leaves.
Text doesn't reward performing.
It costs us something. Omegle grew on clips people posted to YouTube, and nobody screen-records a text conversation — so we grow one person at a time. That seems like the better trade.
